I'm going to answer them both at the same time, I'll read them individually,

but we're going to answer them both at the same time.

The first one comes from Ronnie in Sparta, New Jersey.

Pop Bear, I'm just starting to get into winter hiking.

And I've kind of expanded my hiking season well into December.

I've read about stories of people hiking into Catskills and occasionally

people getting caught off guard where they have to be rescued because they

didn't have the proper equipment or they weren't expecting it to be as cold

in early December and in trouble.

I'd like to know what you do to avoid these situations or if it's just

you just have to accept the fact that occasionally you're going to get

caught off guard weather wise.
