Summary

This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!

On this classic episode of The Grave Talks, we step inside the vast, echoing halls of Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum—a place where history and hauntings collide in unsettling ways. Once a cutting-edge hospital for mental health treatment, the asylum later became overcrowded, chaotic, and steeped in suffering.

Joining us is Brandi Butcher, Paranormal Event Manager at the asylum, who guides us through more than 160 years of chilling stories. From Civil War raids and whispers of hidden gold to experimental treatments and personal tragedies, the building has absorbed generations of pain, hope, and unrest.

Today, visitors and investigators report shadow figures, unexplained voices, and an energy that refuses to fade. Is it residual trauma locked into the walls—or something far more aware? Walk with us through one of America’s most infamous institutions and discover why the spirits of Trans-Allegheny may still be checking in… long after release was supposed to come.

All right. Thanks for having me.

Now, first I want to get right to the name of this building, Trans-Alegany Lunatic Asylum. People might be offended by that.

1:05.8

But that is the original name of the building.

1:08.7

Absolutely. And that is, there is a lot of controversy with it, but one of our main goals is to educate, you know,

1:15.8

future generations about the brutal history of the past.

1:19.8

And that was the historic name.

1:21.3

So that's why we did adopt it when we opened up for tourism and education.

what would they be looking at? Because it's ginormous. Yeah, a lot of people, even myself as a child,
