Big plays on both sides of the ball.

Let's break it all down.

Hey!

Welcome everybody to the Patriots Training Camp cast.

I'm Mike Duceo, joined by Paul Prillo and Evan Lazare.

And guys, this was just a fun practice. A lot of fun, some big plays. I think both sides of the ball had some moments, but Paul, what stood out most of you today? I thought Drake really made some nice passes downfield. First time we really got to see him throw it a little bit, say, beyond the 10-yard mark with any sort of consistency. There was ups and downs,

0:38.8

and that's why I think the coaches would probably be happy because I think both sides of the

0:42.7

ball had things to be encouraged about, but also plenty of things to try to correct. Yeah,

0:46.9

big play of the day, probably a big throw to Pop Douglas. Play of camp so far, exactly what we all

0:51.6

love to see from Drake, you know, script rolling to his right flicked it off

0:56.0

of one foot like 50 55 yards in the air to pop douglas and you could see it developing you're like

1:01.6

oh he's going to get behind the the safety there and drake put it right on them so it was exactly

1:06.8

the the off script play that you're probably imagining in your head is exactly what it looked like on the field. So that was really good to see. But like Paul said, there's some ups and downs. Like I thought there were some incompletions in this practice, maybe a few more than what we've seen in previous practices from Drake. But overall, you saw some of those deep bombs down the field, which is what we wanted to see as well. Yeah, the first two days of practice was primarily focused on first and second down. A lot of completions, not a lot of incompletions balls hitting the ground. Today they add in third down, a little bit more aggressive. So I think the pressure was on a little bit more figuratively and, you know, literally on the field with some of the defensive players getting in the backfield. Roberts Spillane, Keon White, Milton Williams, those guys were all, again, disruptive at times, but again, the offense still managed to make some plays. I would totally agree. I thought the running backs got free a few times on the linebackers. Spillane did show some, I mean, I think he had back-to-back plays where he had nice, you know, past breakups. But on the downfield stuff, I thought they were susceptible.

2:03.5

That's why I think it's probably a good sign.

2:05.9

We've talked about a couple of times in the last few years about how we would come in from these days while the defense just dominated today.

2:12.1

Or the defense looks like they were out to lunch today.

2:15.2

Today, I thought there was kind of some ups and downs for both sides. Pass protection would be my number one concern still, and I just can't wait for Monday so I can stop giving the caveat of, well, they're not in pads, so we don't know yet. Yeah, well, Evan, we got a little bit of a precursor today. There were some one-on-ones. Usually those drills reserved for when the pads do come on. Seems like they're setting the stage a little bit for that. But, you know, as much as the team periods might have been inconsistent with the protection, you did see some good stuff in those individual drills. Yeah, I thought Will Campbell had two really good reps at left tackle against, you know, front line players, Keon White, Anthony Jennings. So that was good to see. anybody that tries to beat Will Campbell around his edge.

2:51.6

It's tough. When you get a beat, it's usually to the inside, which we saw maybe once or twice in

2:56.8

the team period. So I'm with Paul. It depends on which way you want to look at it. From Deuce's

3:02.3

perspective, his defense and his pass rush was getting after it. From the offense's perspective,

3:07.2

there definitely was some pressure on the quarterback today
