But first, last Sunday armed surveillance officers in South London saw a man they were

following leave a shop on Stretem High Road.

Within 60 seconds the man began stabbing people within another 60 seconds the officers

had shot him dead.

He had been following him because he had been released early after being convicted for

terrorism offences.

The fact that police were watching him has generated extra interest in the case.

It was the first thing that the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Cressida Dick, was asked

about when she faced the London Assembly on Wednesday.

I'm not going to, as you would expect, reveal any further details of normal surveillance
