Hi, I'm Edwards III, and welcome to all things Catholic, where real faith meets real life.

0:12.4

The whole world is watching the Catholic Church in these days. As we have mourned the death of Pope Francis,

0:17.7

we just celebrated his funeral, and now we are awaiting the conclave and

0:22.4

who will be the next pope. And there's a lot of questions people have. If you encountered that,

0:26.6

if you have people at work or in your neighborhood, just ask you about like, oh, what's happening

0:30.5

in the church and who do you think the next pope will be? I got my hair cut recently. And the person

0:34.2

cutting my hair, she asked me, oh, how you doing? I heard the Pope died.

0:37.6

And everyone's talking about this. And if you had the chance to actually share about your faith,

0:42.5

it's a wonderful opportunity to share about why we are Catholic and what we believe. But if somebody

0:51.4

What does the word Pope mean? Is the pope biblical? Is there anything in the

Bible? And who was the first pope? How many popes have there been? Is this really something where we've

0:59.6

seen popes throughout history? Or is it something that was invented in the medieval church maybe? How would

1:04.1

you be able to answer those questions? Well, that's what we're going to take a look at in this week's podcast. So welcome to All Things Catholic. I'm your host, Edwards,

1:11.7

three, and this is kind of a special edition. I'm in Rome this week. Actually, Beth and I arrived

1:16.9

on the day of the funeral. We're able to actually catch the funeral, just arriving that morning

1:21.5

for Pope Francis, and to pray with the whole church morning and praying for his soul, the repose

1:26.7

of his soul, and gratitude for his pap, the repose of his soul, and gratitude

1:28.4

for his papacy. And we're also here, we're seeing cardinals all over the streets of Rome,

1:33.7

and, you know, they're all gathering and they're starting informally to already begin thinking

1:37.8

about who might be the successor to Peter, the next successor to Peter after Pope Francis here.

1:43.0

So I think it's a great time for us to
