Summary

The resurrection is not just something that happened 2000 years ago, but something that Jesus wants to do in our souls today. Dr. Sri explains how the risen Lord is a wounded surgeon who enters the depths of our sufferings to bring new life, restoration, and wholeness. Most importantly, the resurrection of Jesus doesn't just fix things; it makes all things new.

Hi, I'm Edwards Sari and welcome to all things Catholic, where real faith meets real life.

In this Easter season, I want to help us to see the resurrection is not just something that took place 2,000 years ago, but something that Jesus wants to do in our souls

0:22.1

today. He wants to relive that resurrection in the depths of our sorrows, our doubts, our darkness,

0:29.5

our fears, our wounds, our sins, our weaknesses. He wants to heal us and fill us with new life.

0:36.4

You see, this is a part of the theology,

0:38.0

the resurrection that's not often talked about. We may have heard that Jesus is the divine physician,

0:43.3

but today I want to reflect on something T.S. Eliot once said that Jesus is the wounded surgeon.

0:50.5

Yes, he is the divine physician, but he's gone before us in the depths of our sufferings.

0:56.0

And I want to help us to see this, the idea of the resurrection, not just as a historic event, not just as an article of faith, but something very, very personal.

1:04.0

And to appreciate that, I want to start off by bringing you back to Good Friday, because we can't appreciate the resurrection of Jesus unless we understand his

1:11.4

death and the cross. And I want to think about this in a personal way. Are there times in your

1:16.3

life when you feel not understood, not appreciated, not heard, not seen? Are there times when that

1:25.0

happens to know that Jesus entered in the depths of that on Good Friday.

1:29.6

Are there times when you're falsely accused? People have a read on you and it's not the full picture,

1:34.1

but there's nothing you can say to change their mind, nothing you can do, and you open not your mouth.

1:39.2

Are there times where maybe you have an unexpected burden suddenly put upon your shoulders?

1:44.9

It just came out of nowhere.

1:49.9

Some little mini family crisis or a challenge at work, something in your finances or your health or a certain relationship that's going through turmoil and you're anxious about it. Or maybe there's a

1:55.6

burden that you've been carrying all your life from your childhood and you never realized it.

2:00.7

There's a deep burden from your

2:02.8

upbringing and now it's starting to come out in your life and you're starting to notice how much

2:06.4

it's affecting you. Or maybe there's times in your life when you're living the 10th station
