Summary

Jaren Grob, aka "The Monster" won two X Games Gold Medals, was featured on the cover of the Aggressive Inline video game, and had the world in the palm of his hands. Then his sport was iced out of X Games, went underground and Jaren's pro career went from contest winnings to skating shows. But, that's not what makes this one interesting. Jaren grew up poor, went on tour at 14, joined the circus, and made it in skating. 30 years later, he's still being paid to skate, but it's a different monster. Legendary Utah skater, Cameron Card asks the Inappropriate Questions.

It's time to talk some shit on the Powell Movement.

Welcome to the Powell Movement.

0:16.9

I'm your host, Mike Powell, and wow, the Olympics are halfway over,

0:20.8

and really, with the Olympics and with everything in these

0:23.7

intros from here on out, I'm not going to lie and I'm not going to sugarcoat things.

0:28.0

I'm going to let you know exactly how I feel about things without the filter I've kind of had on for the past nine years.

0:33.7

And I say that, but I'll still have a little bit of a filter because the world isn't really ready for an unfiltered me.

0:39.5

But I have been a little more transparent about my feelings on things, the past few intros, and one of my buddies, he's been encouraging me to speak my mind and be myself since day one.

0:49.2

And I'm finally listening. I'm going to let you know what I think. So when it comes to the Olympics, I could care

0:54.5

less about most of the events that they have going on. To me, the Olympics are a stale, old-timey competition.

1:00.9

That, yeah, the idea of it is cool, but the presentation, the manufactured stories, the corruption

1:06.4

of the IOC, it's all bullshit. Really, I only care about the X-Games sports that are in the Olympics

1:12.2

and a few other things. I like the short track speed skating events and ski racing. And I understand

1:17.4

that a lot of people love the figure skating, but it's not for me. Maybe if they had a better way of

1:22.0

presenting the skating for a modern audience, I could get into it. But while it's so difficult

1:27.1

and those athletes are incredible,

1:28.9

it's also kind of boring to me, and I've stopped watching that part of the games because I can.

1:33.7

I mean, before, I didn't have a choice. While there aren't many nice things about having a dead

1:38.5

wife, not being forced to watch figure skating during the Olympics and acting like I care is one of them.

1:43.9

But I'd happily watch figure skating all over again to have An's back. But that's never going to happen again. So see you later, Brian Boy Tano. Is it too soon for me to make jokes like that? I don't really know. But like I said, I'm not sugar-coding shit and I'll just say it and I'll leave it in there. I know I haven't really recovered from this whole death thing yet, but that's life, I guess. Back to the games, the crazy thing about these Olympics and

2:05.9

pretty much everything in this country and world these days is that our dictator, our emperor,
