Phil Sifferman is back and chock full of stories from the past that we won’t get anywhere else. On the podcast, Phil and I jump back in time, talking about the drama behind the IOC and FIS, the party powder days of skiing, the gruesome accidents he’s witnessed on a royal level, and so much more. It’s a different kind of episode, and the stories are true gems.

Welcome to the Powell Movement.

0:17.1

I'm your host Mike Powell, and as you listen to this, I'll be in Boulder, Colorado, and should be seeing my final dead show tonight, ever.

0:24.2

And I know this isn't the real dead, it's John freaking mayor for Christ's sake.

0:28.6

But that doesn't matter to me. I saw The Dead three times with Jerry, and to be honest, while I don't mind the music, I don't go for that. These days, I go to hang with one of my best friends from high school, the guy I first saw the dead with, and I go to enjoy the parking lot.

0:42.3

It's like a spiritual experience, and the music is the bonus part.

0:46.3

It's a vacation from reality with my buddy Steve.

0:48.3

Where am I going with this?

0:50.3

Well, it feels like I've been taking a lot of vacations from reality lately, and it's starting

0:54.9

to impact my workflow. See, I've gotten sucked into social media recently, and when I say I got

1:00.0

sucked into social media recently, I'm always on social media promoting the podcast and scrolling

1:04.8

through bullshit. But recently, over the past month, I've noticed that I'm spending more time than ever

1:09.7

watching way too many reels. So now it's like I'm spending more time than ever watching way too many

1:10.8

reels. So now it's like I'm spending 25% of my day watching videos of Frenchies or pandas being

1:17.1

cute or apartment tours in New York City or homeless people being bought lunch or so many other

1:22.8

random acts of kindness that usually end up with someone getting money and tickets to their

1:26.7

favorite event.

1:31.3

This is so much different than the negative stuff we looked out of the 90s, like the bumfight stuff that people sought out. And all of this content gets so many views, it's crazy.

1:37.0

But when I think about these videos from a content and marketing perspective, they really don't

1:41.1

do anything to make me want to buy a product or do anything of value for me, really.

1:45.4

They just waste my time. It's like I'm entertained by meaningless crap that I'm never going to
