Summary

Cody Townsend has been at the top of the ski food chain for over a decade but he wasn't supposed to be a skier, he was born into a football family with surfing and skiing habit. Well, Cody bucked the family tradition and chose skiing over team sports. He became one of the best of his time, married another one of the best skiers of our time, has created brands, projects and so much more. Another do not miss episode.

I'm your host, Mike Powell, and this week on the show, my guest is Cody Townsend.

0:19.6

I spoke with Cody a few years back about his life and

0:22.4

times for another podcast, and it was fascinating. This time around, I cut 20 minutes of that

0:28.5

interview into the podcast to give Cody's background and then dive deeper onto some things that I missed.

0:34.6

Then we jump in the present day for an hour of new content.

0:38.3

It's a great chat where we talk about the 50 Project, Ski Media, Shane McConkey, and a whole lot more.

0:45.3

It's a look into the life of one of skiing's biggest personalities and a guy who is more informed and educated than most professional skiers.

0:53.3

I do want to give you a heads up that this

0:55.4

interview was recorded at two different times and Cody and I sound different on each recording.

1:00.6

I hope that doesn't bother you. Before we get into the show, I'm going to tell you a little bit about

1:05.3

my spring break. And while it wasn't the Daytona Beach spring Break I experienced in 1993, it was the adult

1:12.2

version of Spring Break.

1:13.9

A ski trip with my boy and the goal was to hit a place that we had never been to before.

1:18.4

The spot we chose was White Pass, a mom-and-pop place off the beaten path, and home to

1:23.5

Olympic medalist Phil and Steve Mayer and Steve's, pro skier Andy Mayer. I knew they were

1:29.8

going to have great skiing, but that's really all I knew about the place. And when we pulled up,

1:34.5

there was no looking for parking spots. We parked as close as you can get to the base area.

1:39.2

Then we headed over to the ticket window and our lift tickets were $65 for me, $40 for my kid, and the mountain was completely

1:46.4

empty on spring break. And I hear it's like that most of the time. It was dumping the whole

1:51.1
