Over in the state of Michigan, an actual militia has just been formed in order to defend

the Second Amendment. Specifically, this took place over in Holtin Township, Michigan,

which is located in the western part of the state, a little bit north of Grand Rapids.

And the board of Holtin Township, they passed a resolution which primarily did two separate

things. Firstly, it declared the Township to be a Second Amendment sanctuary community

where unconstitutional laws controlling firearms will just not be recognized.

This means that in practice, quote, Holtin's resolution protects the lawful purchase and

possession of all firearms, including semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, semi-automatic pistols,

accessories, ammunition, and body armor that are legal under existing federal law.

And then secondly, Holtin Township created an enforcement mechanism for this resolution

in the form of a voluntary community militia whose state of purpose is to preserve the

constitutional riot to keep in bear arms. Now, this resolution and the establishment

of this militia comes amidst the backdrop of red flag laws that were passed over in the

Michigan State Legislature and then signed into law by the governor, Governor Gretchen

Whitmer. Specifically, last May, which is seven months ago now, Governor Whitmer signed

into law Senate Bill 83, as well as House Bill 4146, 4147, and 4148. Taken together,

this new set of laws create a protocol for friends, family members, neighbors, doctors,

and police officers to seek a court order against someone and have their firearms taken

away. Specifically, under the statute, quote,

a law enforcement officer or other specified parties, such as mental health professionals,

family members, friends, or neighbors could request a judge to order the confiscation

of all firearms from an individual whom the court finds to be potential violent threat
