Good evening, and right before we dive into the main story, I'd like to offer a quick

0:15.7

correction.

0:17.0

In our previous episode, the one that we published on Monday, December 4, we discussed President

0:21.5

Trump's rico case over in the state of Georgia.

0:24.6

And at the end of the episode, I mentioned that because it was a state-level case, if Trump

0:29.0

were to be found guilty, only the Georgia governor would be able to issue a pardon.

0:33.2

Meaning that in the episode, I said that Governor Brian Kemp would have to issue a pardon

0:37.1

to Trump if he were to be found guilty.

0:39.3

However, after we published the episode, I learned that over in Georgia, that's not actually

0:44.0

0:57.3

And it's this board.

0:58.3

It's not the governor.

0:59.3

It's this board consisting of five members who would be in charge of offering clemency

1:02.8

to President Trump.

1:04.2

Although, in a certain sense, the governor retains some, you can say, sort of, indirect influence

1:08.9

on the pardon process, given the fact that it's the governor who appoints members to this

1:13.2

board, although those members do then have to be confirmed by the state Senate.

1:16.7

And so, in theory, the Georgia state board of pardons and peroles is technically independent

1:21.7

of the governor.
