Our new series is called Total Meditation. Consciousness works on

everything in your life but you can also focus on beliefs you have adopted

unconsciously.

So let's discuss how we can become conscious about sticky beliefs.

Sticky beliefs, they don't let us become free.

Becoming conscious about sticky beliefs

involves a kind of dissection.

You need to examine four elements behind strong beliefs.

One, who first told me this?

Who first told me this thing which I now hold to be true? Number two, was

it repeated a lot? Number three, why did I trust the person who told me this?

And number four, is there reason to believe the opposite?

If we do this process, then we turn around the experiences that made our belief sticky.

And by turning them around, the belief becomes less and less sticky.

If your mother or father told you something about yourself, should you trust their

opinion? Well, now that you're an adult, you can separate opinion from fact. Think of experiences that indicated how attractive you are in

other people's eyes or how diligently you applied yourself to a task.

The point is to get in touch with the damaged child

inside you rather than allowing it to continue

to dictate what you believe. So basically we're going through a process of reflection

and inquiry about our habitual patterns of thinking, feeling, speaking, behaving, and these habitual patterns are the result
