0:44.7	Hello and welcome back to day four of this 33-day preparation for total consecration to Jesus through Mary. We are doing the first 12 days together right now,
0:50.9	where we examine our lives and try to detach ourselves from the world,
0:55.9	rooting out sin, and instead embracing virtue that is perfectly modeled by Mary.
1:02.3	Yesterday we talked about the sin of greed that keeps us blind to the needs of others,
1:07.6	and through that, blind to Jesus himself. And so today we are going to talk
1:13.8	about a virtue that is beautifully lived out by our blessed Mother Mary. The virtue that destroys
1:22.1	greed is generosity and also hope. So to understand this, let's talk about Pope John Paul
1:31.5	II first. So Pope John Paul II discovered a really interesting thing that totally is not how
1:37.7	you would expect it to work. He discovers something called the law of the gift. Now we feel,
1:44.0	especially when it comes to money and possessions,
1:46.4	that I need to hold on to my things really tight, right? I can't let go with these things. I need them.
1:52.3	And if I give them away, I will have less and I'll feel empty. That's how we think it will work.
1:57.9	But he said that that's not the case at all, especially when we give things away with
2:02.1	love. When we give things away, so often, so much more comes back to us. And even in a bigger way,
2:12.2	our lives were made to be given away as a gift.
2:20.7	Just as God gave us the gift of all we are,
2:24.2	we were created to be given back to him.
