In the early 2000s, I remember suddenly we started seeing these weird images on the

telly, on the TV, the television, where people were being carried off of planes in orange

jumpsuits. They were often chained together by their hands.

The feet were chained but they could march along.

And we were suddenly told that this is all for our own safety.

Again, this was off the back of 9-11.

So we're just running off to war in Iraq for no reason with you guys.

And on British TVs we start seeing this happening and we're

told it's extraordinary rendition now I remember at the time thinking wow that sounds cool

like not knowing what it was you know I would have been like 14 if that and it turns out

that it's absolutely not cool it's absolutely hideous I can't remember if it was these scenes were as it was happening or after some of it got exposed. But I do remember the response very clearly being like, well, this is for your own good. We snatched someone off of the street and we flew them out to somewhere that's not England, but in this shipping container, it is England. And still,

the laws don't apply to them. And it was all very weird at the time. And I really feel like

looking back, it was a kind of watershed moment. I feel like a lot of the naivety that we have

thinking that we really will forever live in a democracy and that humans have rights

and all of that like you know in a very British way went out the window now obviously if you think

someone is going to blow up your country you have to do something but there was a lot more to this

and as we know they abused it right up and down so I think maybe Ali let, let's start with extraordinary rendition. What actually
