FROM OUR 2019 ARCHIVES;: Nearly 10 years ago, On April 27, 2011, the U.S. Storm Prediction Center (SPC) counted 219 tornadoes in the United States, breaking a previous record of 147 which was set in 1974. There were 317 fatalities that day alone, and a record-breaking 4 EF-5 tornadoes cut huge swaths through Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee, while many other huge tornadoes swept through 16 states over a 4 day period, leaving behind a path of devastation claiming over 340 lives and costing over 11 Billion dollars. 1:28.2	On April 27th, 2011, known as day one of the 2011 Super Outbreak, the storm prediction center,
1:44.2	which collates all tornado activity, counted 219 tornadoes in the United States, breaking the 24
1:52.2	hour record of 147 tornadoes set back in 1974, which, as terrible as it was, seemed small today
2:01.4	by comparison. April 27th, 2011, wasn't a apocalypse for the American South. Of those 219 tornadoes
2:09.7	counted, 50 touched down in Alabama and 79 hit the ground in Tennessee, accounting for well over
2:16.1	half the tornadoes that touched down on that day. The tornadoes were incredibly powerful,
2:21.6	cutting long and wide paths of devastation through fields, forests, towns and cities,
2:28.6	paths that knew no reason and spared no innocence.
