0:40.4	In fact, if you look at our primary textbook, the big book, I don't have one here, but if
0:46.1	you've been in the program for a while you may be happy to hear it's making a comeback.
0:52.6	If you look in the big book, you won't find the word disease but once and that's where
0:57.0	they say that it's a spiritual disease and it's talking really then about how resentments
1:02.3	create all spiritual disease.
1:04.6	But they didn't use the word disease for a reason and that reason was that in 1939 when
1:10.5	our big book was written, there was nobody saying it was a disease.
1:16.4	It was a moral weakness.
1:18.6	They used to hide us in addicts and basements and they would put us in a silence and we
1:23.8	were basically for 250,000 years of human evolution, nobody had a solution for what we
1:31.4	call alcoholism.
1:33.6	And then in 1956, the American Medical Association called alcoholism a disease because they
1:40.3	have five criteria that make something a disease.
