Step 12, having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this

message to alcoholics and to practice these principles and all our affairs.

And it's such a broad topic to speak on.

You know, the direct result of taking these 12 steps is a spiritual awakening.

You know, the uncontrollable variable in that is the individual.

You know, and as I was sitting here right after

that prayer, I was thinking of Bill's story where he talks about upon a foundation of complete

willingness, might I build what I saw in my friend, right? And that's, you know, that's something

that's described in these essential ingredients for recovery.

I need to have a foundation of complete willingness.

Step 12 does not look like a very attractive proposition to me if I think I have a way out.

You know, if I am backed into a corner, painted into a corner, if I see that there is no way out other than to accept spiritual help, then I become willing to take these actions that, you know, quite frankly, seem ridiculous to a guy like me that live the life that I lived.

You know, so in talking about, you know, what brings me to that, you know, how do I become willing?

You know, I need to be beaten, plain and simple, plain and simple. And, you know, a life,

I need to actually have, you know, what I needed when I got here was just the willingness to not

have any further step one experiences, you know, and I had a pretty significant step one experience.

I had had numerous ones over the years and I didn't know that they were that.
