I'm Rodney and I'm an alcoholic and I'd like to welcome everybody to the third annual Columbia

River Young People's Roundup, those of you who just got here and those of you who are just

waking up and this is going to be the first meeting today and the title of the meeting is

upon awakening. It's really good to be here. It's fun to be up here too. This can't be any worse than

the last couple days. Thursday and Friday I had to give presentations to junior high school students,

seventh graders and it was really scary. I didn't know what I was doing and my partner and I were

having to try and give them some information that maybe that would help them make a wise choice

when they decided whether they were going to drink or not. It was a challenge and it scared me

because I've done very little speaking except in AA meetings but it came through all right and

what I did was I just turned it over to God. I recognize and realize that by myself I'm helpless.

I can't do anything without God. That's one of the things that I have to do every morning when I

get up is ask God to help me out through the day. It's as simple as that and I try to keep it simple.

When I run the show I always get in trouble and so when I do the first thing when I wake up if

I don't curse for having to wake up. I say, God, here I am checking in again and I picked that

up from Chuck Chamberlain. I think that's something like what he said. I heard that a couple of years ago

and it seemed like a pretty good thing to say as well. That's kind of what I do. I just say, God,

here I am, you know, help me again today just for today and then I kind of think about what I'm
