In the last few days I've been thinking a lot about the big college admission scandal in the United States.

The giant scheme in which about 50 VAPs conspired to ensure the children would get into top colleges

by bribing athletic coaches, by cheating on entrance exams.

And one of the things that struck me about this is just how United Americans were in the revulsion about this scheme.

At a moment in which we seem to be able to turn anything into a partisan fight at a moment in which Americans have vastly

divergent views about equality and whether most people are rich because of their own

efforts or because of the lucky circumstances.
