Welcome back to the Flash number 289, the September 1980 issue featuring a cover pencil by Don Heck, inked by Dick Girodano with the issue being edited by Len Wien.

Our first story in this issue, and that's right, there's two stories.

We have a new backup story, but the first story is a flash story. It's entitled The Good, the Bad, and the unexpected, written by Carrie Bates, penciled by Don Heck, inked by Frank Chiaramante, lettered by Ben Oda, colored by Gene D'Angelo. It's the wrap-up of the whole Dr. Alchemy, Mr. Element, the two L. Desmond. It's all going to get tied up into a nice little bow for us here.

We begin the section of Central City that is filled with abandoned warehouses.

They're not used as rogues hideouts.

This area is zoned specifically to be abandoned so that hobos can stay there and cops can chase them out.

It's long.

There's a backstory to do it. It's traditional in Central City to have these abandoned warehouses. If you take away the dangerous abandoned warehouses, a lot of the character of the city would be gone. So they're just never filled in with anything, along with all the toy factories, and no one ever fills in the caves on the outskirts. There's a delicate urban planning going on here that it would

be difficult for us in the real world to understand in the comic world. Why are we in these abandoned

warehouses? It's because Al Desmond 2, Dr. Alchemy, is searching for Al Desmond 1, who escaped

from one of the aforementioned caves. He's looking for him. If Al Desmond 1 puts up any sort of resistance, he's just going to, El Desmond II is just going to incinerate him. He's wearing the full doctor alchemy get up. He's got the philosopher's stone. He's tracking Al Desmond I through the city. See, he sprinkled some tungsten in his hair while he wasn't looking. I did that to my wife.

Well, back when we were dating, sprinkled a little tungsten on her drove her crazy.

Now we've been happily married for almost three quarters of a year. It's magical.

So he's been following this tungsten tracing through the town, through all the abandoned warehouses.

He finally gets into the warehouse where he believes Al Desmond

one is. He's tracked him right there. He's looking around when officers see a blast, a beam

of something heading towards Dr. Alcamy. Dr. Okami appears to whisper angrily, great stars. I would

yell that if I saw some sort of strange beam coming heavy. He seemed to have whispered it,

drops to the ground, recognize it as niobium acid, which would have dissolved him on the spot, walking all the shadows, is Mr. Element. El Desmond 1. Of course, as we saw in the last issue, has dug out his old Mr. element costume. Now we're going to have a showdown between the two El Desmond's and the two facets of L. Desmond. L. Desmond, too, thinks maybe Al Desmond One's become a crook.
