Tom versus the Flash number 228 or I really thought he was going to beat those kids to death with that long.

Welcome back for the Flash number 228, the July, August 1974 issue, featuring a cover by Nick Cardi with the entire issue being edited by Julie Schwartz.

The first story in this issue is The Day I Saved the Life of the Flash,

written by Kerry Bates, penciled by Irv Novick, inked by Tex Blaise Del. We start on a highway in America,

somewhere, someone driving, and talking to them, thinking themselves about what an incredible story

has happened to them, something so incredible that would be

impossible to convince anyone that it ever actually happened, almost as the narrator says,

a nerve-shattering daydream, a wild hallucination brought on by overwork. We find out that

the narrator is Carrie Bates, the writer of the flesh. Yeah, that's right. We're on Earth Prime.

He's on his way to

Athens, Ohio, and Ohio University for a class reunion. He needs to get there fast. College

reunion seems odd. Do they still, maybe it was different back then, but we see Carrie Bates

with his long hair and his neatly trimmed beard in his smart car.

He is speeding to get to Athens, Ohio.

He gets pulled over by a cop, hands his license over.

The cop recognizes Carrie Bates as being a writer of the Flash because his kid loves

the Flash.

I got to think that Carrie Bates probably didn't get stopped too often by people who loved his work. Maybe we weren't quite familiar with him writing the flash.

A little bit of fantasy added into this. Earth Prime comic books are awesome. Remember, Earth Prime

is in the DC multiverse, sort of our Earth, but with differences. It's like, it's the real world.

The cop still gives him a ticket. The comic book writers don't have that type of pull that they

won't get a ticket. And as he gets ready to continue his drive into Athens, he thinks,
