Well, the structure of this story, the sort of framing sequences, they're out on this date. They're having a picnic and Iris wants to sit by her favorite tree stump. Why anyone would have a favorite tree stump is beyond me. But she does, and it's not there. And that causes Barry to think about what happened to him a week earlier so this whole story

you have to imagine is sort of being told as Barry and Iris are having lunch and Barry is just thinking
