Tom versus Aquaman and Aquaman number 35 or Black Mantis' first appearance was in a Bob Haney fever dream.

0:09.3

Welcome back for Aquaman number 35, the September October, 1967 issue featuring a cover by Nick Hardy with the issue being edited by George Cashman.

0:18.3

Our Aquaman story today is Between Two Dooms, written by Bob Haney,

0:22.6

with art by Nick Hardy. We begin outside Atlantis, right in the middle of the action, a strange ship

0:28.2

circling the domed city. It's your standard, futuristic, yet retro submarine-type ship,

0:37.1

just menacingly circling the city kind of freaking everyone

0:40.7

out inside. When you have a glass dome, you can see just about everything that's going on.

0:45.3

I think it probably leads to a bit of paranoia, but yes, this strange ship circling is definitely

0:50.3

1:07.1

handle the problem unless you knew that the greatest backup man a guy could ever have

1:11.0

was in atlantis taking care of things very condescending which aquilad buys completely aqua

and gets into it looks like a torpedo tube he's fired out of this ejection tube they don't want to

1:22.5

open the gates to risk maybe something trying to sneak in so he's shot directly at the ship that's circling.

1:28.9

Aquaman's flying right towards it, gets a hold of it, hangs on,

1:32.3

hoping to go for a little bit of a ride and figure out exactly what's going on.

1:34.9

Out of a side hatch opens, though.

1:37.2

It's some strange mantel-looking creatures emerge, mantament, spilling out of it.

1:42.5

As Aquaman says, it must be the ship was allure by his old enemy black manta we've never seen before again bob haynes just not happy with what's happened in the past he wants to skip directly to just aquaman having this old enemy black mantle. We haven't even seen

2:01.4

this issue, but he has mutated mantam and the follow his orders, which means he's probably,

2:06.7

it's baller status when you have that type of creature bent to your will. And you have to love
