and the events that have helped shape them. My guest this week is Tom Tuganhat, he's

a Conservative MP, former soldier who's now chairman of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee

and very outspoken on the big questions of geopolitics.

I remember raising in 2017 the question of dirty Russian money in the city and we published

a report on the Foreign Affairs Committee and I seem to remember you guys covered

for Moscow's gold and I remember many people then saying come on we're being paranoid

again you know we're not being paranoid we're warning quite clearly of the dangers that

the UK faces if we don't get these decisions right.

He's been warning about China and Russia for years. Tom welcome and thanks for joining

us.

Tom when we think about your adult life in the military, in government departments and

in politics. I mean how much have you basically been motivated by wanting to make the world

a better place?

Well I think serving our country has been the prime motivation and I think the main interest

in our country's future is in improving the lives of not just ourselves but of those

around us right. I mean I'm pretty unashamed in saying that I try to put Britain first but

I don't think you can put Britain first unless you also champion the rights of our friends

and allies and there I mean obviously France, Germany, America, Australia, Japan, whatever

but today is quite obvious by the fact that we're feeling the pinch places like Ukraine

matter too.
