Todd Rungren is a legend. He is a recording artist of the highest order. And as a record producer

has just produced a litany of albums, it's sort of staggering to think about. You know,

if someone produced just XTC sky-larking, that would be enough for bad out of hell,

that would be enough. Or psychedelics, first album, or then in the middle of all, you know,

before all that, suddenly the guy produces a word American band. So, but there's, I'm leaving out

many, many of them. And as a recording artist has had just massive artistic success.

And someone I've been, who's sort of creative life, I've been fascinated by for a long time.

So, Todd, thanks for being here, man. Oh, my pleasure. You know, it's funny. The last time

that I saw you, we were in a room together. And it was like, I think 1995. It was me, you,

and Paul Schaeffer. And because I was the A&R guy, before I did this life, I was the A&R guy,

I'm that Paul Schaeffer record. Oh, God. All you're talking about the world's most dangerous thing.

Which is like, for me, one of the artists and most ill-conceived things, like,

had ever been a part of, and somehow we were all wrangled into this vision together. And I

remember standing in a studio with you, and back then, you know, the way your deals were,

record companies, we didn't even get to be around you, which was great. And I've read your book,

and I understand all of it. But that one, even as fucked up as that was, you invited me one day.

You and Paul did, and I remember all of us looking at each other like, what are we? What's going on here?

Well, it was a curious time in the life of the band, because they were moving from NBC to CBS.

Yes. And all the while that we're working on this record, Dave is in these

hurtive kind of negotiations about, you know, where he's going to land. So the band is

in a sort of limbo. They're not doing the TV show, because, you know, the TV show is moving from one
