First, we're joined by Dr. Todd Mack, Assistant Professor of Spanish at Hillsdale College, Dr. Mack, thanks for joining

us. Thanks for having me. Talking today about a subject, maybe people have seen headlines,

but don't know much about protest unrest in Spain. Let's start with those who are really

unaware of what's happening in Spain. Describe the current situation there.

The gist of it is that there is a strong movement for independence in Catalonia for a number of reasons that I'm sure we'll get into.

There is no real legal mechanism because of the way that the Spanish government has been set up.

And so they've resorted to take into the streets in protest.

And we're seeing some of the biggest mass protests in European history, for sure happening in Spain now largely peaceful

and people just trying to find a way to get what the government is unwilling or

unable to give them so you describe the size of the, which might answer a bit of this next question,

but is the conflict or is this disagreement between the leaders, you know, Catalonia, Spain

leaders, or is it also among the people of both sides, so to speak?

It really is driven by popular discontent in Catalonia.
