Well, return with me now to those thrilling days of Yesteryear,

and from out of the past comes the story of the first family of saddle-making and Western Wear.

The Stelzik family immigrated from Austria to Texas to continue their trade of saddle and harness

making. In 1850, the family opened its own store in Richmond, Texas before settling in the

growing downtown area of Houston. For over 90 years, the Stelzik family sold clothing,

boots, hats, leather goods, all kinds of stuff out of that store. But in the 1980s,

the family moved the business west to Houston's uptown, Galleria area because that was the place

to be. After nearly 25 years at that location, the traditional brick-and-mortar store came to an

end in 2003. When the state of Texas used imminent domain and took that property to expand a

freeway, Stelzik Western Wear served everyone from foreign dignitaries to American presidents,

oil barons, pop icons like Charlie Dales, and even your everyday urban cowboy.
