See arama not see a Roma. No sir. I've been to plenty of bait shops along the Gulf Coast, so trust me when I tell

you, ain't nobody paying good money to go to a place called C. Aroma.

C. Arama Marine World opened in 1965 as one of the first ocean theme parks in the nation.

It featured more than 25 acres, including a four acre ski lake lake and a 50-foot long 160,000 gallon aquarium.

This aquarium held fish as well as large sharks, and the sharks were part of the shark feeding shows.

You know the thing about a shark he's got lifeless eyes.

Black eyes, like a doll's eyes.

When he comes out here, doesn't seem to be living until he bites you, and those black eyes roll over white.

Unruly children were often fed to the sharks as a warning to the other kids to stop tapping on the aquarium's

glass.

Honestly, that last part is probably not true at all.

However, many kids and parents enjoyed the dolphin, sea lions, killer whales, and a man who wrestled an alligator.

They also had ski shows with guys and gals and bathing suits skiing along to the beach music.

Oh, and did I mention that they had a man that wrestled an alligator? I did. Good. In 1988,

Sea-orama Marine World was the number one tourist attraction in Galveston until the larger

flashier Sea World opened in San Antonio.

This new Sea World along with the salt air rusting up the joint contributed to Sea

Arama closing in January of 1990. Oh, it's possible to see everything at Sierraama Marine World on Galveston Island in one day.
