Sometimes I write a star article to support a sermon that I just preached and rarely, but today I preach a sermon to support a Star article that I just wrote, namely the one entitled This Week Today's Mercies for Today's

mercy's for today's troubles, tomorrow's mercy's for tomorrow's troubles.

One of the points in that little newsletter article was that every day, day by day,

God appoints just enough trouble for that day. No more and no less than he deems best.

He whose heart is kind, not angry, kind, beyond all measure, gives unto each day what he deems best lovingly,

it's part of pain and pleasure, mingling toil with peace and rest.

Now we receive, and we don't always get real enthusiastic in agreement with his judgment

about the measure of pain that he deems best.

We get real upset sometimes because we are wired not to equate pain and kindness.

Why should I think somebody is kind if they've caused me pain?

But the Psalm writer knows well, he whose heart is kind beyond all measure gives unto each day it's part of pain and pleasure.

We'll see another hymn when we're done here that says by another hymn writer totally disconnected in another country and in another

era with another metaphor saying almost exactly the same thing.

It's what hymn writers tend to say all the time.

Every day by a sovereign God there is appointed pain and pleasure. That was one of the first points of the

article. A second point was this, every day with that specifically appointed divinely ordained

measure of pain and pleasure, there is a new fresh, specifically ordained and

divinely designed measure of fresh sustaining mercy to carry it.

Every day.

But we're the kind of people comes with finitude and it comes with sinitude and it comes with

sin who want today to experience the resources that are only going to be given tomorrow for tomorrow's pain.

We can see the pain coming, some of it, not all of it, sometimes we see more than's coming,
