Summary

As Bill and I prepare and record episodes for Season 5, we wanted to make sure you guys had something to check out, so here you go. This is a US Govt produced film of the campaign for Iwo Jima. Produced using footage shot from US Navy and US Marine Corps photographers, including Bill Genaust, this film was made to show the American citizenry what their boys lived through in the hell of Iwo Jima. All of the footage is authentic, all of it was shot on Iwo, or at least offshore. Enjoy and we'll see you guys soon with new material. 0:37.4	This week and next week, we're going to release a couple of wartime, or shortly thereafter,
0:42.8	wartime documentaries that were produced for the consumption of the United States citizenry of the public.
0:50.6	The first one that we're going to show is relatively timely.
1:12.3	It's this, the 80th anniversary of the invasion of Iwo Jima. It's called To the Shores of Iwo Jima. This is a produced piece that was made by the United States Navy and Marine Corps using mostly Marine Corps photographers, including Bill Janoust. Bill Janoust, if you will, if his name sounds familiar,
1:16.5	there's a reason for that. Bill Janoust, of course, was the cameraman that was on top of Mount Surabachi with Rosenthal when he took the picture, the famous picture of the flag raising. And
1:22.3	Janoust, of course, took a lot of combat footage of Iwo Jima. We talked about him in our
1:26.2	Iwo Juaima episode, the long one that aired last week.
1:30.4	Of course, Janous was killed in action on Iwo Jima, and he's still on Iwo Jima to this day.
1:35.9	But this is a produced piece that was produced for the people of the United States. It's the very first time.
1:40.0	Most people in this country got to see the flag raising on Surabachi in color.
1:44.8	The film was actually two reels and we've combined both reels into one longer piece here.
1:49.7	So a couple weeks ago when I said that we were going to start dissecting archival footage as parts of the unauthorized history of the Pacific War, this is not what I meant.
2:00.2	We are actually going to do that in a different,
2:02.4	very engaging way here in the near future in season five. And we think that you guys are
2:08.3	really going to like that. But in the meantime, while Bill and I are producing episodes for
2:12.2	season five, we wanted to make sure you guys still had something to check out during the week.
