The Defense Department has officially told Anthropic it is a supply chain risk and will be cut off from partners

who work with the Pentagon, following through on a threat to escalate its battle with the

artificial intelligence company. A senior Pentagon official said the Defense Department

formally notified Anthropics leadership that the company

and its AI tools present security threats that require an action normally reserved for

businesses from foreign adversaries. The move could have far-reaching consequences for

anthropic partners and investors, including Lockheed Martin, Amazon.com, and Google. Anthropics said

last week it would challenge the designation in court.

Canada says OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman has agreed to take immediate steps to

strengthen safety protocols regarding notifying police about potentially suspicious use of

the company's chat GPT chatbot.

The Canadian government is seeking changes to how OpenAI and other digital platforms operate,

following reporting from the Wall Street Journal that indicated company employees raised alarm bells

about interactions with ChatGPT last year involving an individual whom police identified last

month as a suspect in a fatal school shooting in Tumblr Ridge, British Columbia.
