I'm Zoe Thomas for the Wall Street Journal.

We exclusively report that Microsoft is asking hundreds of its China-based employees

in its cloud computing and artificial intelligence operations to consider

transferring outside of the country.

The request comes as the Biden administration toughens controls on China's access to cutting-edge American technology.

Such staff, mostly engineers with Chinese nationality, were offered the opportunity to transfer to countries the US, Ireland, and Australia.

That's according to people familiar with the matter.

One person said the offer was given to about 700 to 800 people.

A Microsoft Spokeswoman said the company remains committed to the region and China.

Discount retailing app Temu is facing complaints from consumer groups that its business practices violate a new online

content law in Europe. Temu is owned by Chinese e-commerce giant P.D.

Holdings. The organization representing those groups filed a complaint with the

European Commission. It alleges that some of Temu's business practices are in breach

of requirements regarding product traceability among others.

Temu said it is taking the complaint, quote, very seriously.

And Meta is facing an investigation by the European Union
