I'm Alex Oscela for the Wall Street Journal. The U.S. House of Representatives has voted overwhelmingly to approve a bill that would ban Tik-Toc from operating in the US or force a sale by its Chinese parent company bite dance.

The app has faced scrutiny over the way its algorithm works to select content for users.

U.S. officials say Tik-Tok's ownership potentially gives Beijing a way to collect data on Americans and influence public opinion.

woman said it's quote a ban based on zero evidence.

W.S.J reporter Stu Wu told our what's news podcast that the bill's fate in

the Senate is uncertain.

Both sides think that when it goes to the Senate,

it's going to face a much trickier path.

And some senators like Ran Paul of Kentucky

have already come out and said, we shouldn't ban Tik-Tok.

So a couple of senators could try to delay the bill and another tricky thing

is that the Senate might make some changes to the bill and then would have to go back

to the House so there's definitely a far less clear path in the Senate compared with the U.S. House today.
