This is our new afternoon roundup of the day's big tech headlines.

Airbnb has appointed Ellie Mertz as its new chief financial officer.

Mertz succeeds Dave Stevenson, Airbnb's CFO since 2019, who will be the company's first chief business officer.

Mertz has worked at Airbnb for 11 years and previously served as Vice President of Finance.

She also oversaw Airbnb's successful 2020 IPO. SoftBank Corp says it's set to invest roughly

$113 million in Dublin-based software company Cubic Telecom. Cubic Telecom

helps vehicles linked computer networks and analyzes data.

Soft Bank plans to take a 51% equity stake in Cubic Telecom, valuing the company at more than 900 million euros.

And Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup X-AI

has filed to raise up to $1 billion in equity.

That's according to a regulatory filing.

The company has already raised nearly $100,000. That's according to a regulatory filing.

On its website, the startup says that its mission is, quote,

working on building artificial intelligence to accelerate human scientific discovery.

It also says that it is a separate entity from X Corp, but that it'll work closely with Musk's

other properties, including X, formerly Twitter, and Tesla.
