Even as the race for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination takes shape,

future of the Republican Party itself and what it actually stands for, it still remains unclear. That uncertainty

was highlighted by a pair of events this weekend, attended by Donald Trump and other prospective

candidates. On Friday, top Republicans attended an NRA convention in Indianapolis, just days after

a pair of mass shootings in Louisville and Nashville pushed the issue of gun control back to the top of America's minds.

Then yesterday, GOP members were actually in Nashville, Tennessee for a private donor retreat

where the future of the party was a central topic.

Trump gave the keynote speech there last night, and according to a copy of his remarks

obtained by Politico, the former

president declared that, quote, old Republican party is gone and it is never coming back.

And Trump defy that old Republican party, as a party known for starting wars, cutting social

security and Medicare, and offering amnesty to undocumented immigrants. Instead, as part of his bid to return

to the White House, he vowed to crack down on the border, pledged to, quote, keep men out of women's

sports, a nod to the current anti-trans movement within the Republican Party. What meant unmentioned

in his speech, however, was abortion and climate change.

Those are two key issues that animate younger voters and voters of a younger generation.

Even though other speakers at the retreat urged the party to move on from Trump,

he does remain at the top of the Republican Party.

So not sure that, it's not a sure bet though that he will win the nomination again.
