Hey everybody, this is Peter Frick right, one of the producers of Bundyville.

Back again to introduce another series from Oregon Public Broadcasting, and parts, at

least, of the same team that made Bundyville.

This one is called Timber Wars, and it's another story about people trying to take control

of public land.

But this time, it's not the Bundy's on the far right, taking over a wildlife refuge,

but a rag-tag group of environmentalists on the far left, using direct action protests

to try to save old-growth forests on the wildlife that depend on them.

Back in the 80s and 90s, environmentalists blockaded logging roads, locked themselves in

forest-service offices, and famously sat in trees for months or even years at a time.

And while it started out mostly non-violent, it also turned into an escalation that pitted

hardcore believers against the US government.
