Hey everybody, this is Peter Frickwright, I'm one of the producers of Bunnyville.

And I want to let you know about a new project from Long Reads called Cat People.

It's something we've been working on for months, with wildlife reporter Rachel Newer.

And it stems from the fact that there are more tigers in captivity in the United States

than there are in the wild anywhere.

And if you think about it, tigers are this iconic wild animal, and a perfect predator,

that you can never, ever trust not to kill you if it has the chance.

So the number of private tiger owners in the United States should be zero.

Or if you count zoos as private owners, then I don't know 100, 200.

But instead, it's thousands.

And that's just tigers.

It doesn't count the lions and cougars and leopards that these same people also keep

And we wanted to share it with Bunnyville listeners because it turns out that at its heart, this

What happens when outdated, wild west ideals, like owning whatever animal you want, get

taken to an extreme, and then propped up by legal loopholes and deregulation.
