podcast. Today we're going to be talking again with Ryan

McAllister on an interesting, let's say debate in the gardening world.

Although in my mind there really isn't a debate here.

It is up to your personal preference as long as you know the trade-offs of both of these

methods or these approaches. And this would be the Tilling versus no- Tilling approach to gardening.

So Ryan uses a bit of both and I'm asking him in this episode

why he does it one way most often over another and then we sort of get into what a home gardener should think about.

So without further ado, let's talk about no-till with Ryan McAllister.

Yeah, have you heard a lot anything about the whole like no-dig the no till movement? I've heard of it and

stuff and it's in it's good and bad in different ways and I think part of it just is

based on the property you're you're at and the soil that you're in.

Martha's really big on Tilling.

So I think Tilling once or twice isn't a problem,

but I also think Tilling constantly constantly is a pain so I don't

till it as much as she used to have me to be honest just telling it once for me is

what I prefer and that's mainly to a combination of one because we're

working in so much organic matter into this property every year I just need to get

it into the soil and then the other thing is because we have such the deep freezes here and the heaving frost,

it cracks and it clods the soil up. So part of it's just kind of break it up a little bit,

so it's more out of necessity. But I think the people who, if you're tilling the same spot like eight times in a row over the first like couple weeks

Unless you're unless you're starting to guard it from scratch the first time and you're just dealing with the problem that's kind of overkill
