Tic-Toc. Much in the news.

Tic-Toc's algorithm, the heart of the matter. I welcome Craig Singleton, Senior Fellow,

at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy, the former U.S. diplomat, who could help me understand

first the threat of the T-Tok algorithm, young

people especially it's in the news that parents are worried about this and then

the threat to national security it represents following an overwhelming vote in the

House of Representatives to limit Tik-Toxability to cause difficulties by

obliging it to sell to what appears to be a transparent American or European

company. And then, Craig, a very good evening to you, before we go to the

remedy, I want to know what the challenge is, what can go wrong and why.

What is the anxiety about the algorithm?

I mean, it's not just the theory here.

Tic-Toc ties to the Chinese government are just downright dangerous.

There are a lot of concerns that Ticoc's algorithm really enables the Chinese Communist Party to gain access

to very sensitive American data and that a potential forced sale to a U company would curtail not only China's ability to access that data,

but also China's ability to use Tik-Tok to promote disinformation and to meddle in the upcoming US election.

And those are real-world risks that US intelligence officials have recently underscored.
