And on this date in music history, 19 years ago today, John Mayer released this one,

Daughters. Great song went on to win the Grammy for a song of the year. It turns 19 today.

Okay, here we go. We always start with the top story. Again, today it's government shutdown watch.

We're a day closer yesterday. How Speaker Kevin McCarthy rejected the short term by partisan bill

presented by the Senate. That bill would have funded the government until November 17th. Give

them more time to figure something out, but it's dead October 1st Sunday is the start of the new

fiscal year. And if a deal isn't reached by then, the federal government will start to shut down.

I know Congress has a test vote scheduled for tomorrow on a bill that appeals to the far right

members. That's also not expected to pass. So at this point, a shutdown seems almost inevitable.

All right. Okay, getting into sports here came out yesterday, the following Aaron Rogers,

recent season ending injury, Colin Kaepernick wrote a letter to whom it may concern over the

Jets organization asking to join the team in the letter. He was asking to quote lead the practice

squad with the sole mission of getting your defense ready each week. So he wasn't asking to be

thrown straight into a game after having been out of the league for like seven seasons. But

he wants the chance to prove himself during practice. In the NBA, there was a huge three team

blockbuster trade announced yesterday the trailblazers traded Damian Lillard to the box. That's a big

story. He played for Portland for 11 seasons. He led the team to the playoffs eight times. He said
