Live from ABC News headquarters in New York City, this is Good Morning America.

We begin with the government shutdowns,

unprecedented impact on air travel. Now intensifying. The FAA has announced a reduction of

thousands of flights per day. That's a look at the 40 airports that will see some, see those

flight reductions. We're going to have a reaction from some of the airlines to the cuts.

But first, senior

political correspondent, Rachel Scott, is that Reagan National Airport, which is on that list,

along with so many other major airports. Good morning, Rachel.

Michael, good morning to you. And the head of the FAA says that in his 35 career career, he has

never seen anything like this before. This is an unprecedented move that will

impact hundreds of thousands of Americans who are traveling over the next several days,

leading to major flight cancellations and delays starting tomorrow.

This morning, airports across the country are bracing for even more flight cancellations

and delays after the FAA announced that we'll cut 10% of flights at dozens of major airports.

Our sole role is to make sure that we keep this airspace as safe as possible.

Experts say airlines would be forced to cancel thousands of flights nationwide in the coming

days.
