Live from ABC News headquarters in New York City, this is Good Morning America.

We want to get right to the breaking news on the

shooting of two National Guard members in Washington right near the White House. Jay O'Brien

starts us off with the latest on the investigation. Good morning, Jay. Rebecca, good morning.

This was a brazen attack in broad daylight right in front of this metro stop right here behind me in the heart of Washington, D.C. Our crew arriving here just moments before those shots rang out. They saw a chaotic scene, people running for their lives, first responders coming here to provide much needed aid. National Guard running in from around D.C. to try to help their fallen comrades, all of it, right before Thanksgiving.

This morning, new details emerging after a gunman shot two National Guardsmen in the heart of the nation's capital, just a block away from the White House in what investigators are now calling

a targeted attack. The National got shot in the head. Law enforcement sources telling ABC News this

morning the lone suspect is 29-year-old Ramanula Lakanwal, believed to be from Afghanistan,

and came to the United States in 2021. The FBI now investigating the shooting as a possible act of terrorism,

saying the shooter deliberately targeted the two guardsmen as they stood outside a busy metro station.

The suspect came around the corner, he immediately started firing a firearm at the two National Guard members.
