| 0:00.0 | It's Thursday, June 6, 2024. I'm Albert Moller and this is the briefing, a daily analysis of news and events from a Christian worldview. Well we really are living in |
| 0:14.8 | interesting days yesterday in the United States Senate Democrats led by their |
| 0:19.8 | party leader, majority leader Chuck Schumer, Democratic Senator of New York, they pushed forward legislation |
| 0:26.4 | that would legalize a protection for or a right to contraception or birth control. |
| 0:32.1 | Now, those are not exactly the same thing. |
| 0:33.8 | More on that in just a moment. |
| 0:35.2 | Well, it was theater. |
| 0:36.2 | And what was that theater all about? |
| 0:38.1 | Well, it was all about scoring political points. |
| 0:40.8 | The same thing, by the way, is to be expected in the United States House of |
| 0:44.7 | Representatives where you have Democrats working on what's called a discharge petition to try |

| 0:54.1 | That's exactly what the Democrats are trying to do. |
| 0:57.2 | And the reason for that is that as you look at the legislation, it was uniformly presented, especially in the mainstream media as |
| 1:04.8 | being about guaranteeing a right to birth control but when you actually look at the |
| 1:09.0 | text of the legislation predictably it went further than that and in particular it gets right up to the issue |
| 1:15.5 | of abortion and furthermore it also would deny all of the conscience protections |
| 1:20.9 | given to medical personnel at present. |
| 1:23.6 | So this really is a sinister bill and even as it was debated on the floor of the Senate yesterday, |
| 1:29.8 | you could see the clash of worldviews. But the New York Times had a headline, quote, |
| 1:34.3 | G. O. P. On spot to guarantee birth control. Similar headlines appear just about |
| 1:39.7 | everywhere because this was clearly a political ploy in the middle of an election year. |
