I'm Albert Moeller, and this is The Briefing, a daily analysis of news and events from

a Christian world view.

Well are we facing an imminent threat of extinction or not?

And if people actually believe that we are, would it be located in a story on page 6?

All kinds of interesting questions coming up after yesterday, a raft of news media reported

that tech leaders were warning of a risk of extinction from artificial intelligence.

And there's a story here, a real story here, first of all, because the AI issue, the

artificial intelligence issue, is deservedly front and center right now in a lot of our

conversation.

And there's a reason for that, artificial intelligence.

Now remember, intelligence in this sense is at least mimicking a human intelligence

at some levels, not at an advanced level, not at an equal level.

But the use of the word intelligence in this sense is at least mimicking to some degree

human intelligence.

Now as you're thinking about artificial intelligence, just take the word intelligence,

put artificial in front of it.

Now some people would say, well isn't that just simply what a computer is?

And yet, no, that's not what a computer is.

Computers process, but computers do not think, or at least at this point, computers haven't

thought, or at least we thought they weren't thinking.
