The President of Haiti, Jovenelle Moise, was assassinated by gunmen in his home early

yesterday morning.

This comes as the country has been facing rising gang violence, soaring inflation, and

protests by opposition who accused the President of increasing authoritarianism.

Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph confirmed the killing and said that the police and

military were now in control of security in Haiti, while authorities declared a state

of siege and closed the international airport.

The Haitian ambassador to the United States said that the assassination was carried out

by well-trained professional commandos and foreign mercenaries who were mass grading

as agents of the United States DEA.
