A rescue effort is underway this morning in the frigid waters of the Potomac River.

Just before 9 p.m. Eastern last night, an American Airlines jet flying from Wichita, Kansas,

collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport.

Both aircraft crashed into the river, which separates Virginia from Washington, D.C.
