It's a historic day at the Supreme Court as justices will consider whether Donald

Trump is eligible to be president. That's where we're starting the seven from

Let's get you caught up with today's 7 stories.

The Supreme Court will hear arguments today about Colorado's decision to ban Trump

from its primary ballot. Trump is dominating the Republican presidential primary contest,

but Colorado disqualified him from its primary because of his

role in the January 6th 2021 attack on the Capitol. Colorado's High Court made the

decision based on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution.

That section dates back to the Civil War, and it bars insurrectionists from holding office.

The Supreme Court's decision on the Colorado case could settle the question of Trump's eligibility nationwide.

That would give justices a central role in charting the course of a presidential election for the first time in nearly a quarter century. In 2000, the court's decision in Bush v Gore handed that election to George W Bush.

But the justices may seek to avoid a definitive and politically fraught ruling.

And some experts fear that could lead to an outbreak of political instability.
