Good evening. What a beautiful May Day. From the KU.O.W. Newsroom. This is Seattle now. I'm

Paige Browning. Here are today's top stories. It's Wednesday, May 2nd. Starting with

worries over an electricity shortage. Electricity demand in the Pacific Northwest is expected to rise

dramatically over the next decade. And the fear is the region's power sources may not keep up.

The problem is not us plugging into multiple computers

and phones or even population increase, though those are factors. The bigger draw is large

data centers in Washington and Oregon looking to take advantage of our hydropower.

That's an economic advantage that we have here in the Northwest compared to other states in the nation.

That's Crystal Ball, executive director of the Pacific Northwest Utilities Conference Committee,

which just released an annual report on energy supply.

To keep up with his rising demand in the coming years,

Ball says the region needs to upgrade

its electricity infrastructure and storage. Here in Seattle, crews have put out a fire in a business

in Greenwood that broke out this morning. It appears to have caused a lot of damage to the Take

5 urban market. Puget Sound Energy says their investigation has revealed a gas line was disconnected and left blowing
