Proposals for a wealth tax may be dead for this year in Washington State

because, as we've reported, Governor Ferguson won't sign a budget that relies on taxing the rich.

Olympia correspondent Jeannie Lindsay reports.

Governor Bob Ferguson said last week that the proposed budgets from legislative Democrats relied too much on taxes,

especially what he calls an untested wealth tax. So now Democratic budget writers are renegotiating their initially proposed plans.

It's very likely that no part of our budget will be based on the wealth tax. That's Senate

Majority Leader Jamie Peterson. He says expanding the state's capital gains tax could be part of

the final budget plan instead. Voters upheld the capital gains tax in last year's election.

Democrats say that they are aiming to make their new tax plans public sometime

early next week. I'm Jeannie Lindsay in Olympia. A tariff's note today, Washington State has

released an official tariffs resource guide in response to the confusion around recently

implemented federal tariffs. The Department of Commerce launched the guide online this week.
