Good afternoon from the KUOW Newsroom. This is Seattle now. I'm Paige Browning with a roundup of today's top stories. It's Thursday, April 17th. The big story today, more international students in Washington are finding out their visas have been revoked. Three students at Shoreline Community College are the latest. A Shoreline

CC spokesperson says the basis for visa terminations is unclear and is, quote, unlike anything we've

encountered before. In recent weeks, students at the University of Washington, Seattle University,

WSU, and other schools have also had

their visas revoked. President Trump signed an executive order in January stating he would revoke

visas from students who participate in some of the protests related to the war in Gaza.

But in some of these Northwest instances, college officials say there's no indication

the students were involved with activism. Washington Governor Bob Ferguson is criticizing

newly proposed tax plans from legislative Democrats. Ferguson says the proposals aren't sustainable

because of cuts from the Trump administration.

Olympia correspondent Jeannie Lindsay has the latest. The governor released a lengthy statement

Thursday slamming Democrats' latest tax proposals. Earlier this week, lawmakers announced

a slate of changes to existing taxes focused on businesses, property, and sales.

Ferguson cited a number of concerns about the Trump administration's cuts to federal funding

for state programs. He said while Democrats made progress on their new tax plans, he called

their pursuit of $12 billion in new taxes, quote, too risky.

Ferguson's comments only add to the pressure lawmakers' face to strike a final budget deal.
